E3 2013 – EA Press Conference Wrap Up

So earlier today, EA presented The Download, showcasing there games coming out for the next generation of consoles.

EA started off by teasing people with Battlefield 4 Plants Vs. Zombies Garden Warfare, a 3rd person team shooter game.
After what was a really bad ending they moved onto Need for Speed Rivals

Yet another game that seems to be slightly tweaked from previous years, then a very short teaser for a game most people assumed was coming. Star Wars Battlefront

After that, EA showed off a game that most people wanted to see at least 12 months ago. Dragon Age Inquisition.
EA then launched into their barrage of sports games. Where they were quite odd, in that they talked so much about the games, but showed hardly anything of the games.
Finally after that EA showed off Battlefield 4. In full 64 player awesomeness with Commander mode.
EA then ended the show with a game that I honestly can’t believe they are making, but I am so happy they are. Mirrors Edge, this game is not a sequel but a prequel game set before the first game.

EA REVEALS BATTLEFIELD 4 MULTIPLAYER — THE NEXT GENERATION OF ONLINE WARFARE

Sydney, Australia – June 11, 2013 – DICE, a studio of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA), today demonstrated the next generation of Battlefield 4™ at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, California. DICE showcased “Angry Sea,” a stunning single-player demo at the Microsoft media briefing, “Xbox: A New Generation of Games Revealed.” DICE also debuted “Siege of Shanghai,” a spectacular 64-person multiplayer match at “The Download: EA 2013 Preview” press conference. Both software demos were running at a silky smooth 60-frames per second, even while rendering massive maps, vehicles and infantry, environmental effects and dynamic destruction. Gamers can tune into a live stream ofBattlefield 4 multiplayer direct from the EA E3 show floor at: http://www.battlefield.com/au.

DICE also revealed two notable innovations in multiplayer: a game-changer calledLevolution, and the return of the fan-favorite Commander Mode. Levolution creates a dynamic and emergent battlefield where gamers can use the environment to their advantage like cutting the power to a building to shroud their enemy in darkness or reducing an entire skyscraper to rubble to alter the battlefield. With Levolution, the environment reacts to the player’s every move and ensures no two games will ever be the same. Commander Mode places two opposing players at the heart of the situation room with a birds-eye view of the battlefield. It’s a tug-of-war match between two commanders as they deliver critical intelligence and powerful assets to their troops below to the turn the tide of the battle. Gamers will feel the rush of Commander Mode on current-generation and next-generation consoles as well as PC. For the first time, commanders can also take control from their iPad® or Android™ tablet.

Battlefield 4 interview: DICE leaves technology behind

The team over at Eurogamer have sat down with Patrick Bach, the Battlefield man about why no multiplayer details, if its coming to Wii U, PS4 or the new Xbox

What has jumped out in terms of feedback to the gameplay trailer?
Patrick Bach: In general we are extremely overwhelmed with positivity, if you look at the big picture. Then what pops out is, we want more. Where’s multiplayer? That’s good, probably. It’s not good when people are upset, of course, but it’s good people are interested.
It’s part of the plan. We haven’t planned it that thoroughly from that perspective. It’s more like, what do we want to show first? Let’s show something that explains the whole game as much as possible. Playing multiplayer in front of people doesn’t give the audience the full picture. It’s more about ticking off: what is new with the engine? What is new with the feature set? What is new with how we handle weapons? What is new with vehicles? We tried to integrate everything into one demo. It turned out to be the opening of the single-player campaign.

Battlefield 4 Gameplay Debut & Game Details

SYDNEY, MARCH 27, 2013 – Only in Battlefield™ can players go through a building instead of around it or eject from a jet and take out the enemy mid-free fall. Those incredible gameplay moments that blur the line between game and glory can only be created by players, and occur only in Battlefield. DICE, a studio of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA), today announced Battlefield 4™, a genre-defining action blockbuster launching in Spring 2013. Powered by the advanced technology of DICE’s proprietary Frostbite™ 3 engine,Battlefield 4 offers players a glimpse into the future of interactive entertainment – a future that is more human, dramatic and believable than anything before it. With more than 65 million players worldwide, the Battlefield series has consistently been praised by critics for its world-class multiplayer gameplay, and is recognized as the only game that allows players to own land, sea and air.

Battlefield 4 is a seminal moment for the Battlefield series as more award-winning, multiplayer game design elements are incorporated into the single-player campaign. In single-player, gamers will experience huge environments, a playground of destruction, access to an arsenal of vehicles and the ability to direct squad mates. Taking a page from the social aspect of multiplayer gaming, the single-player mode will now track players’ progress, adding an element of persistence and friendly competition to the campaign.

The game made its world debut today with a staggering 17-minute gameplay demo, available for view at Battlefield.com. The demo begins as the player – Recker – opens his eyes to discover that he is trapped in a rapidly sinking car with three of his squad mates. Shooting the window is the only way out. Panic and fear are pushed aside as Recker makes a difficult decision – take the shot and recover the intel but risk that not everyone will survive. The emotional demo features a cast of characters unrivaled in interactive entertainment. Players will learn how to work together in both the Campaign and Multiplayer, issuing squad orders and comparing achievements in both experiences. Adventure and Competition will unfold through a series of beautifully crafted locations constructed with some of the best art and sound design in modern shooters. All of this is only possible with Frostbite 3 – a new standard for interactive entertainment in 2013.
“We are so humbled and proud to debut Battlefield 4 on a global stage with simultaneous events in San Francisco and Stockholm. To be this early in development, and to already be so polished is a huge achievement for the DICE team and reflection of their passion and commitment to driving the franchise forward. Today’s demo was just the beginning — we have so much more in store,” said Patrick Soderlund, Executive Vice President, EA Games Label.“It is thrilling to witness peoples’ reaction when seeing the game for the first time. It really makes you realize that we are at the beginning of a whole new era for gaming. As artists and craftspeople, we are focused on creating a dynamic, open design that brings people together with amazing, surprising unscripted moments that they’ll talk about for days. That’s the beauty of Battlefield.”

By pre-ordering Battlefield 4 at any participating retail outlet, gamers will receive a Premium expansion pack at no additional cost*.
